A Note From the Department Chair色

Welcome! Are you a musician who wants to turn your musical passion into a career? Or just looking for a place to stay connected in music? If you answered yes, then look no further.

Behind the piano is a large, elaborate pipe organ with both exposed silver pipes and wooden casing. The surrounding walls are a warm reddish-brown color, and the audience seating consists of rows of curved, light-brown wooden chairs.

勛圖夥厙 is a student-focused institution where community, diversity, and belonging connect with educational opportunity and academic rigor. The music classes at 勛圖夥厙 State are designed to challenge and motivate students. Hone your musical skills in an immersive and collaborative environment, where faculty know you by name. Our students get to work one-on-one with dedicated and professionally-active faculty on a daily basis.

The music curriculum at 勛圖夥厙 State offers a wide range of musical opportunities for our students. Whether it is a chance to perform as a soloist or in an ensemble, study the theory and history of music, or compose and record your own music, students have a place here. Take part in a robust musical offering in our state-of-the-art facilities, from numerous practice rooms in the main Music Building to acoustically-balanced performance spaces, such as Leon Memorial Concert Hall and Richardson Hall Auditorium. In addition, we have a three-room recording studio equipped with high qualitymicrophones, preamps, software such as Cubase, Wavelab, and Dorico, and software instrumentsand plugins from Universal Audio and Native Instruments.

Music at 勛圖夥厙 State is an active and vital program, committed to musical excellence within a small college environment. Each year, more than 500 on-campus students participate in music through classes, lessons and performing ensembles. The Colorado Commission on Higher Education designated the 勛圖夥厙 State Department of Music a Program of Excellence, one of three 勛圖夥厙 State programs to have received this honor.

勛圖夥厙 is an accredited institutional member of the The Department of Music offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in music education (K-12) and music with emphases in liberal arts, music business & recording, music performance, or music composition. 勛圖夥厙 in any area of emphasis will have the preparation and background necessary to succeed in their chosen fields.

Music Curriculum

Explore Some of Our Courses

MUS 106 – Careers in the Music Industry
The course provides a broad overview of the music industry, the career opportunities that are available, and effective methods of preparing for success in ones chosen career path.

MUS 378 – Music Recording Seminar
This course is a project-based course with focus on discussion of projects, recording and mixing techniques, and critical listening to recordings. 勛圖夥厙 will work on semester-long recording projects in the 勛圖夥厙 State recording studio and participate in class discussion on these projects.

MUS 381 – Comm Music Comp & Prod II
This course will provide seminar-like instruction in commercial music composition (pop, rock, R&B, etc), music production techniques, and composing for film trailers and video games. 勛圖夥厙 will work individually or in groups in the 勛圖夥厙 State recording studio on completing two film and video game projects and one individual composition and recording in a genre of the students choice.
