Celebrating the rich culture of the San Luis Valley through music, the ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø Band Ensembles will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in Richardson Hall Auditorium.
The performance will include music commissioned for the Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA) performance in January. Seven new original pieces were commissioned by the ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø State Music Department as part of the SLV Cultural Commissions Project. The composers included Jack Stamp, David J. Pierce, Dr. Jennifer K. Bellor, as well as three current students and one alumna of the Music Department.
"Each of these works were inspired and influenced by the culture, geography, and people of the San Luis Valley," said Dr. Angela Winter, band director, "truly a celebration of the Valley and our students."
The commissions were supported by contributions from ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø State’s Title V Office, the Sangre de Cristo Heritage Area, and the Alamosa Live Music Association (ALMA).
In addition to these commissions the program will include one piece featuring Chiho Sugo, guest artist, clarinetist and teacher from Japan.
Admission is free to Friends of Music and members of Associated ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø and Faculty; $1 for all other students; and $5 for general audiences.
