Twenty-three high school students from across Colorado are becoming immersed in the sciences the week of June 12 as part of the Migrant Education Program’s STEM Academy at ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø. Now in its third year, the week-long academy introduces students to education and career opportunities for STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics).
With instruction by ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø State faculty, the students are spending time in laboratories and classrooms, gaining exposure to the range of science disciplines. One highlight is a day-long geology field trip to Del Norte and South Fork.
³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø are recruited for the STEM Academy by the Colorado Migrant Program. Requirements include minimum 2.5 grade point average; expressed interest in mathematics, science, engineering, or technology; a written essay; recommendation by a school educator; demonstrated leadership experience, and plans to attend a post-secondary program.
