As the weather cools, the ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø campus heats up with activities and events to welcome new students and welcome back returning students.

Beginning Thursday, Aug. 15, new students move into their resident halls, meet roommates, and check out the campus and community. A tradition for over 10 years, New Student Convocation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, in Plachy Hall. Dynamic speakers will inspire incoming freshmen and transfer students and their families.

The ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø State Office of Co-curricular Recreation and Engagement, along with the Alamosa County Tourism Office and Alamosa County Chamber of Commerce, will expose new students to the broader community during a Discover Alamosa event from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Alamosa Welcome Center.

First day of classes is Monday, Aug. 19. ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø State has new degree programs in Food Studies, Outdoor Education and Stewardship, Public Relations, Communication and Media Studies, and a new online program in Media Industry and Communication.

Also new in the fall semester is an eSports Club for gamers. Early fall semester events include celebrating ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø State as a Hispanic Serving Institution during the month of September and homecoming celebrations October 17-19.
